Dealing With High Conflict Personalities with Samantha Drum

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

How does one interact with a person who consistently causes chaos and conflict?

In this episode of the Beauty of Conflict, Susan and CrisMarie interview Samantha Drum, a high-conflict strategist and personal injury attorney, about conflictive personalities and how to handle them effectively. Samantha explains the characteristics of high-conflict people, their telltale signs, and emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries and managing one's reactions. She provides free resources and strategies to maintain dignity and self-control in challenging situations, including an Argument Playbook for de-escalating conversations, a quiz to identify high-conflict personalities, and a smear campaign survival guide. Throughout this conversation, Samantha discusses with Susan and CrisMarie how she empowers individuals to manage their responses and protect themselves rather than trying to change high-conflict personalities.

About Samantha Drum

Samantha Drum helps people who feel trapped in high-conflict relationships learn real tools and strategies to take back their power and their life.

She is a high-conflict strategist and personal injury attorney with years of experience managing high-conflict people and situations, as well as coaching others to do the same.

After facing several high-conflict personalities at the start of her career, she realized a harsh truth—law school did not prepare her for managing high-conflict behavior or extreme personalities.

Her mission became clear. Samantha decided to take the time to study high-conflict personalities, to learn effective tools and strategies that she could use when she found herself in high-conflict situations. She learned how high-conflict personalities work, the way they think, and what causes them to go off, and then she implemented plans for managing the situation to minimize the damage they cause and maximize my control of the situation.
