The nervous system is surprisingly far-reaching within us.

In this episode of the Beauty of Conflict, Susan and CrisMarie are happy to be joined by Irene Lyon, a nervous system expert, to talk about how working with the nervous system can transform trauma to heal one’s body and mind.

Humans, unlike other animals, have a higher brain that has the ability to ignore signals caused by stressful situations or events, but that doesn’t mean they never occurred. Just like built-up pressure within a sealed container, unresolved issues can explode and express themselves through symptoms or even illness in our bodies. To explain how to address this, Irene starts by breaking down the nervous system into smaller systems and talks about their function in our daily lives and how they respond to threatening situations. She presents different examples to illustrate why upbringing plays a pivotal role in the way we deal with conflict, providing introspective and somatic alternatives that anyone can understand.

Tune in to this episode to learn how we can have a better, healthier body by working with our minds!
