You actually have the choice to be more confident.
In this episode of the Beauty of Conflict, CrisMarie interviews Alyssa Dver, CEO & Co-Founder of the American Confidence Institute, who talks about how to use science in favor of helping others be more confident in themselves. She explains what occurs in the human brain when faced with fear, and how people can become aware of their response and therefore overwrite their neural pathways to make a better decision. Alyssa touches on possible sources of conflict, sharing examples from people she’s helped and even her experience in assessing situations where the counterpart is in an aggressive confrontational state. She also mentions how being tired can be dangerous when making important choices, killing one’s confidence and creating more conflict.
Tune in to learn tools and steps to take to become more confident!
About Alyssa Dver
Alyssa wishes she had known sooner that confidence is learned but not by faking it or by hearing someone else’s hero story. She knows now that confidence isn’t a result of success – it’s a requirement for it and often more important than being competent.
She believes using basic brain science, we can now learn how to be confident by building desired neural pathways that allow us to choose how to think and behave. Her confidence crusade started in 2008 when her older son was diagnosed with a lifelong neurological disability that was predicted to leave him paraplegic. Thankfully, she refused to accept the senseless medical advice she was getting from respected but narrowly trained experts. With only her marketing credentials, she pursued neurological, psychological, and sociological research. She studied Eastern and Western techniques and talked to both patients and practitioners around the world to validate her cross-disciplinary discoveries. The experts soon started to ask for her advice.
Since 2019, she has passionately led The American Confidence Institute, and in 2022, she was also honored to be the Confidence Educator for both IT Cosmetics (a L’Oréal brand) and the American Distilling Institute. With 7 books, 2 TED talks, a popular podcast, and various awards, she also trains entrepreneurs at Wharton, MIT, and several business innovation centers.
Knowing how critical belonging and inclusion are to having real confidence, she also founded and now chairs the ERG Leadership Alliance - the world’s largest association of employee (resource) group champions. They train ERG leaders, oversight managers, executive sponsors, and allies how to build strong and sustainable employee groups (aka ERGs, BRGs, Affinity groups, employee networks, etc.).
Her goal is to empower smart, growth-minded people to have real confidence in all aspects of their lives.
